Character Name: Gilbert Beilschmidt (Prussia)
Character Series: Axis Powers Hetalia (http://hetalia.wikia.com/wiki/Hetalia_Archives)
Background: Here (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Hetalia:_Axis_Powers_characters#Prussia)
Personality:Gilbert is the kind of guy who has a completely unwarranted overinflated ego. His social skills are virtually nonexistent, and, though there was once a time in which he was a great nation, he isn’t even a nation at all anymore. Yet he still insists upon calling himself “awesome” and strutting around like a proud peacock. Chances are this is his defense mechanism to keep himself from spiraling into depression, and it works quite well. Despite how far he’s fallen, Gilbert is a very happy, very confident person. Even if he spends his holidays alone and the only person who puts up with him regularly is his younger brother, it’s good to be Gilbert Beilschmidt, as far as he’s concerned.
Usually, Gilbert can be found goofing off, not doing any sort of work whatsoever, playing around on his blog, pestering other nations, or playing with his pet chick. However, Prussia isn’t entirely a lazy bum. Having been a very militaristic nation in the past, he does still have some discipline to him. It’s just a matter of when he chooses to employ it. In modern day that isn’t particularly often, but the potential is still there. There are in fact times when he will be serious and get down to business, though usually only when it’s absolutely necessary.
In modern day, Gilbert has a rather strong desire for recognition. He wants the people around him to respect him and praise him, though that seldom happens. Pretty often, he will pester other nations that don’t particularly like him, such as Hungary and Austria, in order to get some sort of attention. He pesters his younger brother, Ludwig, who is one of the few people who actually likes him, in this manner as well. In the most extreme case, he went around cleaning up everyone’s houses in the hopes of impressing them. It…did not work out well. At All. In fact, more often than not, his plans fail. Failure is a common thing for Gilbert, no matter how much he tells you he’s awesome. However, that is a lot more endearing than if he was as awesome has he says he is.
One of Gilbert’s biggest weaknesses is also one of the most endearing things about him, and that’s his massive soft spot for cute things. Be it small birds, which are his favorite, or any other cute little animal, or even Italians, Gilbert will drop what he’s doing to coo over the cute thing in question.
All in all, though he can be annoying, Gilbert isn’t a bad guy at all, and can actually be pretty fun to be around. So long as his ego doesn’t bother you too much and you enjoy getting into wild shenanigans, he’s a great friend to have.
